Important Information about Electrolysis
Do-it-yourself hair removal by shaving, bleaching or tweezing is only temporary. Harsher methods, such as chemical depilatories can burn and spoil an otherwise lovely complexion.
Electrolysis is the only method of hair removal that is recognized by the F.D.A. as being permanent. There are temporary routes, such as shaving, depilatories, bleach, tweezing, and waxing. Keep in mind that these are temporary and require frequent, time-consuming maintenance. As in tweezing or waxing, they can further aggravate an existing problem, which may also cause skin irritation, ingrown hairs, and scarring.
Your Appearance and Electrolysis
Highlighting a woman’s innate attractiveness does markedly increase her self-confidence. There are several ways Electrolysis can enhance that beauty.
FACIAL HAIR: Over 75% of all women have some facial hair growth. Facial hair on the chin, cheek, and upper lip are so obvious that many women shave or tweeze everyday to hide the growth. Whether it is light and fuzzy or dark and coarse, excessive hair can be quite a nuisance.
HAIRLINE: including low forehead, nape hairline, and widow’s peak, can be heightened and reshaped to whatever the client desires.
EYEBROWS: Today many women tweeze week after week to maintain the desired eyebrow form. Why not have them permanently fashioned and shaped into a natural line and end the inconvenience of tweezing?
ARMS AND UNDERARMS: can be cleared with a minimum of effort. Removing underarm hair not only reduces the level of perspiration, but also inhibits the growth of bacteria that cause odor. Since it is troublesome to shave and painful to wax that area, imagine how convenient it would be to have the hair permanently removed.
LEGS AND BIKINI LINE: Current fashions, especially exposing bathing suits, demand smooth, satiny legs. Electrolysis can rid you of the task of shaving and having to put up with coarse stubbles, allowing you to feel more comfortable while wearing modern fashions.
BREASTS AND ABDOMEN: Hair growth in these areas is not uncommon for women, but it increases a woman’s self-consciousness. With electrolysis that hair can be cleared with ease.
Needless to say, unwanted hair can cause a wide range of problems, from minor inconvenience to serious emotional distress. Electrolysis is the only permanent answer for undesired hair; the only way to enhance one’s natural inner beauty.
Electrolysis for Men
It is quite common for men to receive electrolysis.
BEARDS: beards can be completely removed or permanently groomed and shaped in the cheek and neck areas. Electrolysis can also reduce the amount of care needed to maintain a beard and minimize skin irritation from shaving.
INGROWN HAIR: ingrown hair can be a serious problem for many men. The hair on the face and neck are very susceptible to becoming ingrown, especially through everyday shaving. Electrolysis will permanently remove that problem.
EYEBROWNS: Men use electrolysis to reshape their eyebrows and other untrimmed hair.
The Procedure
The treatment of electrolysis involves placing a new sterile disposable probe into the hair follicle and transmitting a small amount of electrical current into the follicle. The current destroys the dermal papilla (hair route) and then the hair is removed. Once these cells have been destroyed, the hair will not come back. We use progressive epilation with the following modalities:
- Thermolysis
- Galvanic
- Single and Multi-Blend
Treatment Sensation
The sensation in the treatment can vary. Certain areas of the body are more sensitive to treatment than others. When a client experiences discomfort, adjustments can be made to create a more tolerable treatment.
Needles & Sterilization
We practice safety and sterilization procedures as defined by North Carolina General Statues (21 NCAC 19 .0401), which is based on national standards for sterilization for electrology instruments by the Center for Disease Control. We will discuss in detail the sterilization procedures with you during your consultation and supply you with a copy of our Inspection Report.
Achieving Results
A series of treatments, over a period of time, is necessary to achieve successful results. The time varies with each individual in relation to the area to be treated, skin and hair texture, hormonal changes, and medicine taken. Prior use of waxing or tweezing also affects the length of total treatment time necessary. Occasionally repeated treatments are necessary to achieve permanency due to Deep routed papilla, curved papilla, and course hairs. However, the hair that does return is thinner and less resilient. Once the dermal papilla is completely eliminated, new hair growth from the follicle is absolutely impossible. Follow-up appointments are as important as the initial one.
After Care
You may experience slight redness or slight swelling after treatment. This usually subsides after a few minutes. You will be given ice immediately after your treatment and should keep it on for approximately 10 minutes. Also, for 3 days after treatment, a patient should stay out of the sun as this may result in sunburn. Use a sunscreen to protect the area.
